The best location for a smoke and carbon monoxide combination detector is in the hallway near the bedroom, or in the bedroom, ensuring it is within the hearing range of the sleeping occupants. It is also recommended to install them on every floor of your home, near potential CO sources such as stoves and fireplaces, but not directly above them.
Anka security has compiled specific placement tips for you:
Bedroom:
Install a detector outside each sleeping area and, if the bedroom is large, install one inside to ensure that the detector is within audible range when the occupant is asleep.
Corridor:
Place detectors in the corridor leading to the bedroom to provide early warning of potential hazards.
Near the fuel combustion equipment:
Install CO detectors near appliances such as stoves, fireplaces, gas stoves and water heaters, but do not install them directly above them. It is usually recommended to be 10-15 feet away.
Basement and garage:
Consider installing detectors near basements and garages to detect potential CO leaks in appliances or vehicle exhaust.
Height:
Install the CO detector on the wall, 6 inches below the ceiling to 6 inches above the floor, or at least 6 inches from the wall.
Avoid obstacles:
Make sure the detector is not blocked by furniture, curtains or other items that may hinder airflow or alarm sound.
Internet alarm:
If possible, connect smoke alarms to each other so that when one alarm sounds, they all sound, providing a comprehensive alarm.
